I had a hairline crack in my basement that would get damp after every heavy rain. I looked into hiring someone to come fix this crack, but the cheapest I could find was $400. After watching some YouTube DIY videos, I ended up getting the DIY Foundation Crack Repair Kit | Urethane | 10-20 ft off their website. It was delivered in about 4 business days. I am NOT a handyman by any means, but I am able to follow directions well enough to have confidence in doing this myself. In this video I explain a lot of the mistakes I made so you won't do the same.
I've had 3 big rain storms since I patched this crack, and have had no leaks or dampness since.
The underlying problem is probably the trench around and under my foundation that diverts water to the sump is welling up at this corner on the back of my house. There is a poured concrete patio above this corner that should keep the area pretty dry, so the only cause I can think of is that it's a low point in the trench that's building up water. It's extra strange considering my entire foundation is wrapped on the outside with a rubber liner to keep the water away. It must have worked its way under that layer. Either way, there's no way I'm going to tear up a poured concrete patio to get to this issue unless it really becomes a problem.
Glad I waited to finish the basement for just this reason. Lots of settling that needs to be done on these new houses which can lead to cracked leaky foundations.
