In this video, I demonstrate the key differences between Liquid Roofing Systems and Fleeceback EPDM rubber membranes when covering existing roof substrates.
⚠️ WHY LIQUID ROOFING SYSTEMS MAY FAIL ON OVERLAYS
🔬 Using a simple physical demonstration in the workshop, I explain the physics of crack bridging.
⭐ Liquid systems bond fully to the deck ⭐ Any crack or joint in the old roof must be bridged entirely by the liquid ⭐ Thermal movement can force the membrane to stretch instantly ⭐ This may lead to splitting, failure, and water ingress

✅ THE FLEECEBACK EPDM SOLUTION
🧵 Our preferred approach for overlays is Fleeceback EPDM, and the reason is simple.
⭐ Adhesive bonds to the fleece backing, not directly to the rubber ⭐ The fleece fibres act as sacrificial hairs ⭐ When movement occurs, fibres break away from the glue ⭐ This allows the EPDM sheet to float and stretch safely ⭐ The system works like a shock absorber for the roof
This decoupling effect may significantly improve long-term performance on moving or cracked substrates. roofs without the need for expensive scaffolding initially.
