When you buy wood flooring wood from a mill, it arrives in bundles of randomized lengths, usually tongue and grooved on all four sides. But that doesn't mean you can just nail the boards in any way you want. It takes art to make a floor look natural and random, and to limit the amount of cut waste. In the industry, this planning is referred to as "racking out" your rows. Watch Bob make the most of every plank as he chooses boards, distributes his butt joints, and marks the cuts. The nailing goes quickly and smoothly because of this careful preparation.
